Worthwhile Cause of the Day: Detroit’s mayor, Dave Bing, glibly swatted away a legitimate proposal to build a Robocop statue for his city. The Criterion Collection found this to be a poor decision on the part of Mayor Bing, and so did I. If you’re in the same boat as myself and The Criterion Collection, all hope is not lost: A Kickstarter project has been launched to crowd-fund the construction of a Robocop statue for $50,000.
This is something that needs to happen, if only for all of the much-needed attention it will bring to Detroit. Mayor Bing may have passed on the idea, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good one, or at least one that deserves better than a dismissive tweet.
If just 50,000 people say “I’d buy that for a dollar,” they can help Detroit install the ultimate symbol of a better tomorrow.

You’re thinking glass is half empty. Surely if people drive hundreds of miles to get free water (see Wall Drug) then...
As someone who lives in/very close to Detroit, that money could go towards something much more productive, like, I don’t...
suddenly I’m out
